Salisbury Steak:
Ground beef (80% lean) – 1 lb
Panko breadcrumbs – ⅓ cup
Onion (finely diced) – 1
Garlic cloves (minced) – 2
Tomato sauce (marinara) – ⅓ cup
Large egg – 1
Yellow mustard – 1 tsp
Worcestershire sauce – 1 tsp
Dried oregano – 1 tsp
Salt and pepper – to taste
Vegetable oil – 4 tbsp, divided
Mushroom Gravy:
White button mushrooms (sliced) – 9 oz
Onion (sliced) – 1
Low sodium beef broth – 2 ½ cups
Onion powder – 1 tsp
Garlic powder – ½ tsp
Worcestershire sauce – 1 ½ tsp
Cornstarch – 3 tbsp + ¼ cup water (or beef stock)
Salt and pepper – as needed
Vegetable oil – 1 tbsp

Prepare the Steaks:
Sauté diced onion and garlic in 2 tbsp of oil until soft.
In a large bowl, mix beef, sautéed onion, breadcrumbs, egg, tomato sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper.
Form 4-5 oval patties.
Brown patties in a skillet with 2 tbsp of oil (1 minute per side).
Make the Mushroom Gravy:
Sauté sliced onion in 1 tbsp oil until browned.
Add mushrooms and cook until golden.
Return patties to the skillet, add beef broth, onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a boil, then simmer for 15 minutes.
Thicken the gravy by adding cornstarch mixed with water, cook until it thickens.
