Ingredients:
6 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
1 cup sugar (divided)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
Vanilla ice cream (optional, for serving)
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, toss the sliced peaches with 1/2 cup of sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside to allow the peaches to release their juices.
In a 9×13-inch baking dish, melt the butter in the preheated oven.
In another bowl, mix the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk slowly to form a smooth batter.
Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
Spoon the peaches and their juices on top of the batter, spreading them out evenly. The batter will rise around the peaches as it bakes.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
