Prepare the Shrimp:

In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper.

In another shallow bowl, whisk the egg and buttermilk together.

Dip each shrimp into the buttermilk mixture, allowing excess liquid to drip off, then dredge in the seasoned flour mixture. Ensure the shrimp is evenly coated.

Fry the Shrimp:

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the shrimp in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the oil. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Remove the shrimp with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Prepare the Fries:

If using frozen fries, preheat the oven according to the package instructions.

Toss the fries with olive oil, paprika, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet.

Bake in the oven until golden and crispy, about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through for even cooking.

Assemble the Basket:

Line a small basket with yellow parchment paper.

Arrange the crispy fried shrimp and seasoned French fries in the basket, ensuring a balanced presentation.

Serve:

Serve immediately, accompanied by lemon wedges for squeezing over the shrimp, and your choice of dipping sauces like tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, or aioli. Enjoy your casual, mouthwatering feast!
