Ham and Cheese Butter Biscuits

Ingredients

→ Dry Ingredients

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 Tablespoon granulated sugar

1 Tablespoon aluminum free baking powder

→ Wet Ingredients

1 ¾ cups buttermilk (can increase to 2 cups if batter seems dry)

→ Mix-ins

2 cups small diced ham

1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

→ Topping

½ cup (1 stick) salted butter

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 450°F. Spray a 9×9-inch oven-safe glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick cooking spray (preferably one with flour).

In a medium-sized bowl, combine 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar, and 1 Tablespoon aluminum free baking powder.

Pour 1 ¾ cups buttermilk into the dry ingredients. Stir until a sticky batter forms. If the batter appears dry, add more buttermilk incrementally until thick and sticky.

Gently fold in 2 cups small diced ham and 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese until evenly combined.

Melt ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish.

Spread the dough over the melted butter in the baking dish. Use hands sprayed with nonstick spray for easier handling. Evenly distribute the dough.

Cut the dough into 9 squares to make serving easier after baking.

Bake on the middle rack for 25-30 minutes. Rotate the dish midway through baking for even browning. If the biscuits brown too quickly, cover with foil for the remaining time.

The biscuits are done when golden brown on top and spring back to the touch. Insert a toothpick in the center; if it comes out clean, they are ready.

Slice the biscuits along the scored lines and serve warm.
