1️⃣ Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, shredded butter, finely minced onion, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt, and black pepper.
Gently mix until just combined (do not overwork the meat).
Shape the mixture into 4–5 oval-shaped patties.
2️⃣ Cook the Hamburger Steaks:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the hamburger steaks and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through.
Remove from the skillet and set aside.
3️⃣ Make the Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and caramelized (about 15 minutes).
Stir in the remaining tablespoon of butter, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
4️⃣ Thicken the Gravy:
Pour in the chicken broth and beef broth, then bring to a simmer.
In a small bowl, whisk together cold water and cornstarch to create a slurry.
Slowly add the slurry to the simmering gravy, stirring constantly until thickened.
5️⃣ Finish & Serve:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them.
Simmer for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
Serve warm with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
