Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce and Melted Mozzarella

For the Spaghetti:

1 lb spaghetti
Salt for pasta water
For the Marinara Sauce:

2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional) ️
For the Cheese:

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh parsley or basil for garnish

Cook the Spaghetti:

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make the Marinara Sauce:

In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
Add chopped onions and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
Let the sauce simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes to develop flavors.
Assemble the Dish:

Place the cooked spaghetti on serving plates.
Spoon a generous amount of marinara sauce over the pasta.
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
Place the plates under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts and starts to bubble.
Serve:

Remove the plates from the oven and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
