Ingredients:
the Patties:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1/4 cup onion, finely diced
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
️ 1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
For the Onion Gravy:
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dried thyme (optional)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
1️⃣ Make the Patties
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
Mix until just combined (don’t overmix to keep the patties tender).
Divide the mixture into 4-6 equal portions and shape them into oval patties.
2️⃣ Cook the Patties
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of oil.
Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until browned. (They don’t need to be fully cooked yet.) Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
3️⃣ Prepare the Onion Gravy
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until golden and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw taste.
Slowly whisk in the beef broth, making sure there are no lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce, thyme (if using), and season with salt and pepper.
4️⃣ Simmer the Steak in Gravy
Return the patties to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them.
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the gravy has thickened.
5️⃣ Serve & Enjoy
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
