INGREDIENTS:
1 (15.25 ounce) package white cake mix
Ingredients listed on the box (typically eggs, oil, and water)
1 (12 ounce) package fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
1 (16 ounce) container Cool Whip
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
Red and blue food coloring (gel preferred)
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1: BAKE THE CAKE
Prepare and bake the white cake according to the package instructions in a 9×13-inch pan. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
STEP 2: POKE THE CAKE
Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes evenly across the cake surface.
STEP 3: COLOR THE CREAM
In a small bowl, whip together the heavy cream and powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Divide into two bowls. Add red food coloring to one and blue to the other, mixing well.
STEP 4: FILL THE HOLES
Spoon or pipe the red and blue whipped cream alternately into the holes of the cake. Chill for 30 minutes.
STEP 5: ADD THE TOPPING
Spread Cool Whip evenly over the top of the chilled cake. Arrange sliced strawberries on top in any festive design or stripes.
STEP 6: CHILL AND SERVE
Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to set everything nicely.
