Shrimp Dirty Rice Recipe

Ingredients:

1 lb hamburger meat (ground beef)

1 lb ground pork sausage

10–12 shrimp, tail off & deveined (you can add more!)

4 cups cooked white rice

2 cups broth (chicken broth — Better Than Bouillon is perfect)

1½ cups mixed onions and bell peppers, chopped

3 tbsp vegetable oil, divided

1 tsp seafood seasoning (like Old Bay or Cajun seasoning)

Optional add-ins:

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp Cajun or Creole seasoning

2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Cook the meats:

Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the ground beef and pork sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks (about 8–10 mins).

Drain excess grease if needed, but leave a bit for flavor.

2. Add the veggies:

Push meat to the side and add another tablespoon of oil.

Add chopped onions and bell peppers (and garlic, if using). Sauté for 4–5 minutes until soft and fragrant.

Stir everything together.

3. Cook the shrimp:

In a separate pan, heat 1 tbsp oil over medium heat.

Season shrimp with seafood seasoning.

Cook shrimp for 2–3 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove and set aside.

4. Combine & simmer:

To the meat/veggie mix, add:

Cooked rice

2 cups broth

Optional: 1 tsp Cajun seasoning for extra kick

Mix well and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until everything is well combined and moist but not soupy.

5. Add shrimp & finish:

Stir in the cooked shrimp just before serving to keep them juicy.

Garnish with green onions if desired.
