ITALIAN SAUSAGE WITH PEPPERS AND ONIONS FEAST

 

 

INGREDIENTS:

4 Italian sausages (sweet or spicy)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large onion, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar or red wine
½ cup marinara sauce (optional)
4 hoagie rolls or Italian bread (if serving as sandwiches)

Cook the Sausages: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausages and cook until browned on all sides, about 8 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Sauté the Peppers & Onions: In the same skillet, add olive oil, sliced onions, and bell peppers. Cook for 5-7 minutes until softened. Add garlic, salt, black pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Stir well.

Deglaze & Simmer: Pour in balsamic vinegar or red wine to deglaze the pan. Stir in marinara sauce if using. Return sausages to the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 10 minutes.

Serve Hot: Enjoy as is, or load the sausage and pepper mixture into toasted hoagie rolls for a classic sandwich.
