Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

ingredients

* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 tbsp baking powder
* 1 tsp salt
* 1 tbsp sugar
* 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
* 3/4–1 cup cold buttermilk
* 1 tbsp melted butter for brushing

1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.
3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Pour in the cold buttermilk, starting with 3/4 cup. Mix gently until just combined. If the dough seems too dry, add a little more buttermilk.
5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it just a few times until it comes together.
6. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1 inch thick. Fold it over itself a couple of times to create layers, then roll it out to about 1 inch thick again.
7. Use a biscuit cutter (or a glass) to cut out biscuits. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
8. Brush the tops with melted butter for a delicious golden finish.
9. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and fluffy.
10. Serve warm and enjoy!
