Italian Stuffed Cabbage Rolls Recipe

For the Cabbage Rolls:

1 large green cabbage
1 pound (450g) ground beef
1/2 cup cooked rice
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 large egg

For the Sauce:

1 can (28 oz/794g) crushed tomatoes
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and pepper, to taste

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Blanch cabbage leaves in boiling water until pliable. Drain and set aside.
3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, and egg. Mix well.
4. Lay a cabbage leaf flat and place about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture in the center. Fold the stem end over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll the leaf into a snug package. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.
5. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, 1 minute.
6. Add crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
7. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, create a thin layer of the tomato sauce. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down in a single layer. Pour remaining sauce over the rolls.
8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until cabbage is tender and filling is cooked through.
9. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
