ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1⁄3 cup bread crumbs
1⁄4 cup milk
1⁄4 cup finely chopped onion
1 large egg
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1⁄2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
For the gravy:
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon water (to mix with cornstarch)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1⁄2 teaspoon onion powder
1⁄2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until everything is well incorporated but do not overmix.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the beef patties and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, prepare the gravy by adding beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water until smooth. Pour the mixture into the simmering gravy, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
Reduce the heat and return the beef patties to the skillet, spooning some gravy over each one. Cover and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through.
Serve the Salisbury steaks topped with gravy, along with mashed potatoes or a vegetable of choice.
