Ingredients:
500 grams all-purpose flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp active dry yeast (or instant yeast)
250 ml warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
2 tbsp vegetable oil or melted butter
1 egg (optional, for richer dough)
200 grams grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
Extra cheese for topping (optional)
1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions:
1. Activate the yeast (if using active dry yeast):
In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, oil (or butter), and egg (if using). Mix until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough:
Knead by hand or with a dough hook for 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
4. Add the cheese:
Knead in the grated cheese until well incorporated.
5. First rise:
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
6. Shape the dough:
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or rolls. Place on a baking tray or in a greased loaf pan.
7. Second rise:
Cover and let it rise again for 30–45 minutes.
8. Preheat oven:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
9. Top and bake:
Brush with egg wash (optional) and sprinkle more cheese on top if desired.
Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
10. Cool slightly and enjoy!
